Deborah North is a remarkable woman who has taken on the role of both mom and dad since 2010, when she was widowed with three young daughters.
She has dedicated her life to providing them with all the support and guidance they need, both in their daily lives as well as in the various sports that they pursue. Grace, a former college track athlete; Rae, who has participated in numerous sports but is currently passionate about cheer, wrestling and track, and Annie, who takes part in softball, wrestling, and track and field.
In addition to being a loving mother and role model for her daughters' sporting endeavors, Deb also owns an executive search firm called True North Consulting which she founded in 2011.
However, it was during a shopping trip for wrestling gear with her youngest daughter Annie that Deb came up with the idea to launch YES! Athletics. This is a sporting goods company by women for women which seeks to empower young female athletes by offering traditionally male sports gear in feminine styles and colors. The aim behind YES! Athletics is to make sure that girls are not limited by the lack of sporting options available.
The mission of YES! Athletics is twofold - firstly, it wants to encourage young females to try out sports that they might not have considered previously; secondly it wants them to feel welcome and recognized by providing shoes that male athletes traditionally wear, but in styles and colors that are appealing to female athletes. In other words, YES! Athletics seeks to break down any barriers that stop girls from taking part in whichever sport they prefer.
She also uses her platform at YES! Athletics to spread awareness about various topics such as health concerns specific to female athletes, and making sure girls understand what rights they have when it comes to participating in sport activities without feeling intimidated or judged.
