US stocks higher in early trading as companies set to release fourth-quarter earnings

Major U.S. stock indexes are beginning the week in positive territory as investors await fourth-quarter earnings season with just over 100 companies in the S&P 500 set to report, along with 14 members of the Dow, or almost half the blue chip average.
