Conidia Bioscience released more information about their aviation fuel testing kit which is now available for people within the aviation industry who wish to test for microbial contamination

Egham, United Kingdom - June 21, 2021 /PressCable/

Earlier today Conidia Bioscience released more information about their aviation fuel testing kit which is now available. For those unaware, aviation fuel can be contaminated through several manners, via the supply chain, storage or even through general operation.

What causes this contamination is microbes which are tiny little organisms such as yeasts, fungi and bacteria which often present themselves wherever there is water. Aviation fuel systems are the ideal environment for bacteria and through being warm and humid, they provide bacteria everything they need to thrive and potentially cause damage.

When these microbes are given the chance, they can cause blockages within fuel filters and cause multiple problems with gauging. These microbes have also been known to induce corrosion which can be damaging to the structure of an aircraft’s tank.

Because of these risks, it’s imperative that aviation fuel is tested regularly for contamination. In most instances, it should be routinely checked as part of a fuel management process from beginning to end.

One of the previously mentioned concerns is that aviation fuel that is contaminated can cause blockages within filters which could lead to a filter bypass warning lighting up in the cockpit, most likely at take-off which can cause the full force of the fuel to be restricted. Operational delays can be a repercussion of having filter issues and if encountered, may require thorough examination.

Microbial contamination within aviation jet fuel is traditionally measured through a method known in the lab as IP385 and under this method, contamination levels are noted in cfu/ml which simply measures the colony forming within water per litre of fuel, but newer technologies are available such as the aviation fuel testing kit that Conidia Bioscience provides.

FUELSTAT is an immunoassay antibody fuel testing kit which is specifically designed to detect microbe contamination, and unlike other tests available on the market, FUELSTAT specifically locates the presence of microorganisms that cause damage to fuel.
