Maryland Medicare Plans In 2023 : Expansion In The State Brings More Choices

The expansion of Medicare Advantage Plans in Maryland for 2023 will mean great selection and a wider coverage area. New plans with greater benefits throughout the state is a positive change.

Independent Medicare insurance broker, Peter Palmiotto, has announced his firm’s new offerings for the 2023 year in the state of Maryland. Recent changes to how Maryland processes Medicare claims has paved the way for a more competitive marketplace and will make for a stronger offering from national and local insurance carriers.

According to Mr. Palmiotto, founder and CEO of Maryland Medicare Options, “The positive effects of archaic billing rules being overhauled are finally coming to fruition. We are seeing an expansion of offerings from a variety of insurance carriers for Maryland Medicare Plans in 2023. All 23 counties as well as Baltimore City will see at least one new Medicare Part C Advantage Plan available in 2023. This is good news for Medicare recipients in Maryland.” He further went on to explain, “In the past, the selection of Advantage Part C plans was limited, dwindling down to just one PPO option throughout the entire state. Now seniors can shop from several carriers offering extremely competitive PPOs, HMOs, Special Needs plans and an MSA plan. Increased benefits with overall lower co-payments and broader provider networks is a change in the right direction.”

Maryland Medicare Plans in 2023 will also bring new offerings for beneficiaries with both Medicare and Medicaid with plans known as Dual Eligible Special Needs plans, or D-SNPs, for those that are Dual Eligible. These plans are designed specifically for those needing extra financial assistance. The expansion of new plan choices will occur in the counties of Allegany, Garrett, Somerset and Wicomico counties. In 2023, there will be at least one D-SNP plan available in each county in Maryland.

“I’m happy to be able to offer all types of plans, from traditional Medicare Supplements and drug plans, to Advantage plans throughout the state and I’m excited about these new offerings. I think more and more Medicare beneficiaries will start signing up for Advantage Plans as they continue to improve over the coming years. Maryland is a few years behind where most of the country’s metropolitan areas are today. You’ll often see areas outside of Maryland offering dozens of Advantage Plans with extremely robust benefits and low Max-Out-Of-Pocket limits. We’ll get there too, it’s just going to take a few years. These new plans in 2023 are a great start” explained Mr. Palmiotto.

Those that are Medicare eligible will be able to join an new plan during the Annual Enrollment Period, known as AEP, which runs from October 15th through December 7th each year. Beneficiaries are now also able to make one Medicare Advantage change between January 1st and March 31st, known as the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment period. Additionally, eligible seniors can join a plan when they turn 65, or trigger a Special Election Period (SEP).

Mr. Palmiotto explains, “There are a lot of rules and deadlines that you might miss when dealing with Medicare. It’s best to work with an independent broker so you understand your specific plan options and enrollment timeframes. Don’t simply rely on friends or family members, TV commercials or what you read online in order to make your healthcare decisions. Speak to a full-time Medicare insurance professional and verify they have a broad range of products available. Don’t be embarrassed to check their credentials and ask for references. Most states have a Department of Insurance website where you can look up each insurance broker’s credentials.”

Picking a Maryland Medicare insurance plan in 2023 should be easier than ever before, with a greater selection serving an even bigger geographic region throughout the state.

Mr. Palmiotto’s brokerage firm, Maryland Medicare Options, is currently licensed and authorized to sell many of the Medicare Advantage plans throughout Maryland consisting of eight different insurance carriers comprising of at least 27 different plan options. The brokerage firm offers appointments by phone, video conferencing, or in person consultations and specializes in the Maryland senior insurance market. There are no costs or fees to work with Mr. Palmiotto.
