Piqua On Way to Gaining Certified Gigabit City Status

MetroNet Begins Construction on Piqua’s 100% Fiber Optic Network

MetroNet today announced a partnership with Piqua, Ohio that will now provide Piqua residents and businesses with MetroNet’s ultra-high-speed 100 percent fiber optic infrastructure with construction beginning today. MetroNet, the nation’s largest independently owned, 100 percent fiber optic provider, is fully funding the multimillion-dollar investment that will provide Piqua with access to future-proof gigabit speeds.

Preliminary construction has begun just south of Echo Hills Municipal Golf Course and in areas south of Covington Avenue. Construction will expand rapidly over the next two years with the first customers online in the summer of 2022. As construction continues, customers may sign up for presale, which will indicate their interest and prioritize installation when available. Those interested in MetroNet services may visit to be notified when their address is available for installation and to access presale.

“Piqua is thrilled to have the opportunity to bring MetroNet to the homes and businesses of our community,” said Kris Lee, Mayor of Piqua. “100 percent fiber optic internet will provide the community with access to modern technology that will improve our online experiences with strong and unparalleled connections, and we are excited to see MetroNet’s impact.”

“MetroNet is proud to bring ultra-high-speed 100 percent fiber optic infrastructure to Piqua, Ohio as they join the internet elite to become a Certified Gigabit City,” said John Cinelli, MetroNet CEO. “Connecting communities to our reliable and customer-centered services is a wonderful opportunity to show residents the power of fiber optic and gigabit speeds to unlock Piqua’s potential for continued growth and economic development.”

MetroNet brings fiber directly to homes and businesses in underserved communities in America with affordable, symmetrical speeds up to 10 Gigabits with no long-term contracts. The company expects its network to be available to more than one million residential households and business locations in the near term, providing more service options to hundreds of communities.

Residents in construction areas will receive communication by mail about construction activity in their neighborhood 30 days prior to beginning and the company provides additional messaging, such as yard signs, to let residents know when the temporary construction process is beginning in their neighborhood. MetroNet crews are marked by ID tags and branded vehicles.

MetroNet is one of the fastest-growing providers of fiber optic high-speed services in the nation and is known for its outstanding customer service provided by a strong local presence. Residents and businesses that are interested in MetroNet services may visit to indicate their interest and to receive updates on construction in their area.
