Fintech company, Klarna, has announced IPO intentions and intends to go public in the near future with a current valuation of over $40 billion.

SEOUL, South Korea - Aug. 24, 2022 - PRLog -- Who are Klarna?

Three Swedish business partners founded Klarna in 2005 with a vision to simplify online payments for consumers and retailers. The growing trend and necessity they are offering customers is 'buy now, pay later' (BNPL) purchase options.

BNPL is currently a US$5.10 billion industry expecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 26.0% from 2022 to 203. Klarna have captured a leading share.

The company operates in 45 countries. The company has a successful track record in Europe and recently started to make its mark in the U.S. Already, 20 million customers use Klarna's services in the U.S. And the company has plans for growth.

How much is Klarna worth?

In June 2021, Klarna announced it had raised an additional $639 million in a funding round, giving the fintech a post-money valuation of $45.6 billion. Making it the 4th most valuable privately owned start in the world.

Who owns Klarna?

Co-founder and CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski owns nearly 8% of Klarna; this stake is now worth $2.2 billion according to recent valuations. Victor Jacobsson, another co-founder, has a roughly 10% stake, which is worth $2.7 billion. The third co-founder, Niklas Adalberth, owns 0.4% of Klarna. Klarna is also backed by investors such as Sequoia Capital, Silver Lake, Bestseller Group, Dragoneer, Permira, Visa, Ant Group and Atomico.
