The announced Saona Island excursion takes a small party of guests to the three most remote beaches on the island. Guests will experience the sea, wildlife, scenery, and culture of the island far from the areas popular with tourists.
The Dominican Republic is the second-largest Caribbean island and a popular tourist destination. It has nearly 1,000 miles of coastline and has focused on ecotourism with 29 national parks, covering both land and sea and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Each excursion has a strictly limited number of guests. Starting at Bayahibe, the guests are taken by boat along the edge of the National Park of the East to Penon and then onto a sandbank that acts as a natural swimming pool and is known for its starfish.
The tour then stops at Catuano Beach on Saona Island, where a traditional Dominican barbecue lunch is provided and there are opportunities to snorkel. Afterward, the tour visits Mano Juan, a small, remote fishing village and beach with no cars and only solar electricity. It also has a sea turtle project sponsored by SeavisTours to improve the survival rate of sea turtle hatchlings.
The last stop is Canto de la Playa beach, where there are swimming and snorkeling opportunities in the coral gardens. Here guests can see a wide range of sea life, including sea horses, pufferfish, turtles, tangs, and stingrays. More experienced snorkelers can go beyond the reef barrier where there are larger fish.
SeavisTours was founded in 1999 offering a range of eco-tours that focus on the beauty of the natural environment and the wildlife of the Dominican Republic and its authentic culture. All the excursions are limited in numbers and visit remote locations, away from busy tourist areas.
A spokesman said: “We are pleased to make this excursion to Saona Island available to visitors to the Dominican Republic. Like all our excursions, it reflects our passion for adventure and beautiful scenery and our mission to make sure guests have a great time.”
