PhD Student Veda Jamoona is Featured in an Exclusive Interview

During the interview, Veda discussed the subject of her doctoral research, the benefits of Transcendental Meditation, and her family's influence in shaping her into the person she has become.

NEW YORK, NY / ACCESSWIRE / April 16, 2021 / Veda Jamoona, a PhD candidate and researcher at the Maharishi International University, recently sat down for an in-depth feature interview with the online health and wellness platform Thrive Global.

Throughout the course of the interview, Veda answered a wide variety of questions on topics ranging from the professional to the personal. For instance, when asked about the subject of her doctoral research, Veda replied that she hopes to use neurophysiological markers to display the advanced states of consciousness people have achieved-states outside of waking, dreaming, and sleeping-and that these states are measurable in human brainwave activity. "The subjective experience of higher states of consciousness is the experience of always being in the zone, or always being in a flow state," she elaborated. "A good example would be a basketball player who never misses a basket."

She also had some wise words to say about staying centered and maintaining mental clarity. Asked what she does when feeling unfocussed, Veda responded that when that happens, she likes to pause and reassess what she's doing. "Another thing I tend to do when unfocussed is meditate, an automatic self-transcending, non-focused, meditation like the Transcendental Meditation technique. After I do this for a few minutes, I notice my mind will automatically want to focus on something when I am done."

As to her role models, Veda cited her family and had many kind things to say about her mother and sister, who she credits as having been the biggest influences in her life. "They have taught by action. They have displayed excellent leadership, high emotional intelligence, and true understanding of spirituality and the practical applications of spirituality," she reflected, going on to give an example of how her mother's compassion for others drove her to open a not-for-profit adult daycare for senior citizens who lacked proper care. "She did it at her own expense, not just financial, but her emotional energy and physical energy," said Veda, adding, "I learned so much from her."
