FWSD is known for its legacy showcase of emerging, established and celebrity fashion designers premiering designer collections to the Greater San Diego audience filled with media, buyers, press and now a virtual audience tuning in from all over the world. At the heart of it all, this organization has always set a standard for being inclusive with ethnicity, size, age, gender and has astonishingly managed to represent the melting pot audience in the San Diego community since conception in 2007 with Founder Allison Andrews.
As new Director Gwendolyn Bates stepped into position at FWSD in 2019, she made sure to take FWSD’s already diversified platform a step further and launched the only Designer Diversity Cultural Program known to fashion week globally, in San Diego. This program has opened the door and allows designers in underserved communities the opportunity to take their brand to the next level with this established and professional fashion program only at FWSD. Gwendolyn Bates, shares, “Not only are we are dedicated to seeing our creative community thrive during a challenging time, but we are extraordinarily excited for the support we have received and will receive to enhance our efforts with the Diversity Designer Cultural Program”. The program is picking up steam in its second season now with goals to reach more geographical locations and gain additional support from those who wish to be a part of something great and philanthropic in nature.
As a staple in the community, and a legacy event in its fourteenth year of operation, FWSD reminds San Diego that it seeks to remain being that inclusive platform that designers, models, photographers, artists, and creatives in general, can rely on. As FWSD has been that pillar for fashion, art, beauty, lifestyle, luxury in San Diego county, they have plans to continue producing fashionable and creative content the general audience and creative community can rely on for inspiration during a time people are home. FWSD is proud to continue bridging the gap of fashion and arts in the San Diego region and is now a live plus broadcasted organization.
