Austin approves $1.5M for businesses facing immediate closure; SAVES funding to be used for long-term solutions

Austin City Council approved the initial guidelines for three relief programs under the Save Austin's Vital Economic Sectors Act at its Oct. 15 meeting. But, Council wants to focus those programs on long-term solutions for business owners — sending city staff back to the drawing board for additional "enhanced guidelines." Still, some cash appears to be available sooner than later, the mayor said, acknowledging that some businesses don't have a few weeks to receive funds.
