Once the fee is paid, a temporary card can be printed during the visit. A hard copy of the card will follow, to be mailed to the patient from the state. Dr. Austin has stressed that patients should understand that they first need to obtain the card. It has become a recurring task at his practice to explain to patients that they do not actually purchase the marijuana from the clinic. Instead, patients obtain a card from them and then use that card to get marijuana from a certified dispensary.
