Kickstarter Movie Project is Helping the Mermaid Film Genre Become More Inclusive.

"Siren's Ruse" trailer: 5-minute preview of feature film.

SAN DIEGO - November 13, 2018 - (Newswire.com)

Two local artists from San Diego, will be making a fantasy motion picture called "Siren’s Ruse." They will be creating this film using an unconventional approach. They will film the preview first, and then the motion picture. The reason for this? They will use the finished preview in conjunction with a screen play and film treatment in order to pitch the film concept to major motion picture production companies.

Jonathan Hammond (Grooveko/Jonathan Hammond Productions) is the Producer/Director of the project. His accomplishments include the award-winning film short “Isabel”. (2018)

Cory Baxter is the Writer/Asst. Director of the project. The movie preview is based on his 2016 self-published novel.

Talent for this project will feature actresses from the HB Mermaids of Huntington Beach California. Mermaids Quintessence and Moana will star as the principal characters in the preview.

This mermaid movie will differ from virtually all others in the genre, because these mermaids will not be based on fantasy/mystical creatures but instead be altered humans.

If you are not familiar with Kickstarter, it is a global crowd-funding platform focused on creativity. Participants invent their projects and rely on revenue from backers. In exchange, the backers receive tangible products for their donations.

The "Siren's Ruse" trailer: 5-minute preview project has set a financial goal of $6,000. They have 30 days in which to raise the funding, or else the project will not be funded.

For many film audiences, the fantasy genre that includes mermaid movies is very popular. Every few years a new addition to the category is produced. However, with one notable short film exception, the choice of lead character has never been very inclusive. The "Siren’s Ruse" film will feature a fresh new take on the mythology.

Eventual movie plot listed on the Kickstarter web page:

"A woman named Maya Bixby is on a solo sailing trip across the Atlantic Ocean. She is rescued from a diving incident by what appears to be a mermaid. The mermaid, Neshelle, explains to Maya that she is actually part of a family that traveled here from the future. These Andophins are human, but have been genetically modified to live in the seas."

"A syndicate treasure hunter, Victor Landau uses satellite thermal imaging to observe the Andophin’s Colony. Finding out about this, Maya helps them ward off the attentions of Landau and his crew."

"The Siren's Ruse film will feature a fresh new take on the mythology," added Cory Baxter.
