Beijing – On 15th September, Marina Lee, the Global Vice-Chair of IECA declares an exclusive partnership with Lighthouse Academy in GC area, a milestone event remarking an incoming dark horse in the Chinese overseas education consulting market. The partnership will enable Lighthouse to provide students in PRC, for the first time, with access to USA college admission mentors, Ivy League admission officers, IECA international consultants, NACAC international consultants and other international education resources. IECA and Lighthouse also jointly unveiled the Lighthouse Ivy League Admission Officer Program, with which Lighthouse will recruit, interview and review 10 applicants admitted by the program in China on a annul basis.

Based in New York and Beijing, Lighthouse Academy is co-founded by Ivy League alumina. As an international education agency, it integrates consulting services for global application and admission with training and background enabling programs and cooperation programs of overseas universities. In 2017, Lighthouse was awarded The Most Influential Brand of Overseas Education by the China Internet Information Center. The news was covered intensively by Global Times, Chinanews.com, China.org.cn, Sohu.com, NetEase.com and other 300+ media. “Lighthouse reinvented the current model of overseas education agencies in China”, commented by Global Times.com.

In 2018, oversea education advisory services in China were reshaped for a number of times against the backdrop of cancellation of administrative approval by Chinese State Council. The industry over the past decade had been progressing from the traditional intermediary model that featured by extensive assembly-line-like consultancy toward a lean, private and premier service, resulting in emergence of many small but competitive consulting service agencies. Being one of them, Lighthouse is dedicated for Ivy League applications with an innovative 5-1 service model that reshapes the industry into a new direction.

Lighthouse Ivy League Admission Officer Program inherited the new application standards for USA universities (Turning the Tide) championed by Harvard Graduate School of Education. With resources of international experts which are still scarce amongst Chinese consulting agencies, the program had not only adapted itself into the context of Chinese applicants, but also provided Chinese overseas education industry with a brand new methodology and resource model. In 2017, 7 out of 10 applicants in the program were admitted by undergraduate programs in Ivy League schools, striking a remarkable 70% admission rate.

According to China’s Ministry of Education, the number of Chinese students receiving overseas education exceeded 600,000 for the first time, reaching a number of 608,400 in 2017 with an 11.74% year-on-year growth. China still remains the largest source country of overseas students. When the traditional overseas education model is declining, the innovation is reshaping the industry. The market worth trillions is undergoing fundamental changes. Marina Lee’s visit to China, IECA’s in-depth cooperation with Chinese consultancy for the first time and its partnership with Lighthouse remark an incoming dark horse in the Chinese overseas education consulting market.
