Texas Health Resources Board of Trustees Elects New Chair, Vice Chair and Members

ARLINGTON, TEXAS – The Texas Health Resources board of trustees has named Richard Vigness, M.D., to serve as board chair, and Hunter Hunt to serve as vice chair. Both will serve two-year terms, providing leadership and guidance to the largest faith-based healthcare system in North Texas.

Vigness is a cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon who has served on the Texas Health board of trustees since 2013. He previously served on the boards of the National Health and Safety Committee for the Boy Scouts of America, the Medical Advisory Committee for Carter Blood Care and the Fort Worth Division of the American Heart Association. In 2008, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth honored Vigness as Physician of the Year.

Hunt, CEO of Hunt Consolidated, has served on the Texas Health board of trustees since 2011. In addition, he serves as the treasurer for the board of directors of the Dallas Citizens Council, on the board for Dallas County Promise and as past chair of All Stars Project of Dallas. Hunt founded Lemon Tree Trust, a non-governmental organization working with refugees engaged in therapeutic help through gardening.

“Texas Health is fortunate to have the vision and insight of these two leaders, along with our entire board of trustees, focused on how we can improve the health of the people in the communities we serve,” said Barclay Berdan, FACHE, CEO of Texas Health Resources. “I am grateful that Richard and Hunter have agreed to serve in leadership roles and look forward to working alongside them.”

In addition to Vigness and Hunt, Texas Health added three board members.

Vianei Lopez Braun, J.D., is a current member of Texas Health’s audit and compliance committee. She heads the Labor and Employment Group for Decker Jones, P.C., and serves as the law firm’s chief development officer.

Lawrence Hum, M.D., is a member of Texas Health’s quality and performance committee, where he has served since 2020. He also serves as a member of the Texas Health Virtual Care board of trustees. Hum is a former member of the Texas Health board of trustees, serving as ex officio member as the Physician Leadership Council (PLC) chair.

Javier Iruegas, FACHE, is a member of Texas Health’s finance committee, where he has served since October 2021. He is a newly retired healthcare executive with more than 38 years of experience in management consulting, hospital operations and executive leadership.

“It is an honor and privilege to serve beside a distinguished board of trustees and leaders in North Texas and the healthcare community,” said Vigness. “Over the past 25 years, Texas Health has grown to be the market share leader, caring for more North Texans than any other system in the area. I’m excited to have a front row seat to driving the growth of the system to continue to better serve our community.”
