ALI Offers Free Ladder Safety Education and Training

March is National Ladder Safety Month; learn simple steps for safer ladder use.

Because ladders are a common in and around the home, the American Ladder Institute (ALI)—the approved developer of safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry—is preparing for its annual ladder safety awareness campaign, National Ladder Safety Month. Held every March, it is the only program dedicated exclusively to promoting safe ladder use at home and at work. This year marks the event’s 10th anniversary, with the theme “10 Years of Safer Climbing.”

The CDC’s NIOSH program reports that each year in the U.S., more than 500,000 people are treated and about 300 die from ladder-related injuries.¹ Many incidents are preventable when people choose the right ladder, inspect it before use, set it up properly, and follow safe climbing practices.

ALI emphasizes that many ladder-related incidents are preventable and develops its programming to help people use ladders correctly and confidently. The more people who get involved, the wider the message spreads—and the more people are reminded of simple steps that can improve safety.

At the heart of the campaign is ALI’s free Ladder Safety Training program, available year-round at www.laddersafetytraining.org. Open to all, the online repository includes training videos and resources covering key safety topics and a range of ladder types.

National Ladder Safety Month 2026 will focus on five key topics: Choosing the Right Ladder (Week One); Check Before You Climb (Week Two); Set It Up Safely (Week Three); Climb Safely, Work Safely (Week Four); and Safe Steps with Stepstools (Week Five).

Helping to motivate safety and the success of Ladder Safety Month are our sponsors. This year’s Middle Rung Sponsors are International Masonry Institute, International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Werner Co., and Louisville Ladder. First Rung Sponsors are Riverdale Plating & Heat Treat LLC and Dorsey & Whitney.
