Stiffler to lead organization’s growth and patient accessibility efforts
instED, a leading mobile acute care provider, today announced the appointment of Don Stiffler as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 1, 2026. In his new role, Stiffler will guide instED’s strategic growth as the company works to expand access to innovative acute care services delivered directly to patients' homes.
Stiffler brings over 35 years of healthcare expertise to instED. Most recently, he served as Chief Growth and Transformation Officer at Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA), where he was responsible for strategy, product development, network and provider relations, clinical innovation and market expansion. As part of his executive leadership role at CCA, Stiffler also led the day-to-day management of instED and has served as the company’s board chair for multiple terms.
Prior to his role at CCA, Stiffler served as Senior Vice President at UnitedHealth Group/Optum, where he led sales, clinical operations, business development and network management across 39 markets in their Complex Care division.
Stiffler's appointment reinforces the vision and strategy he helped shape. His extensive experience in both payer and provider sectors, combined with a proven track record in driving growth and enhancing operations, positions him to lead the organization during this critical phase.
“At a time when hospitals and EMS systems are increasingly overburdened, offering convenient and high-quality alternatives to the emergency department is essential to keeping our healthcare system running smoothly,” said Don Stiffler. “This is why I’m so passionate about bringing instED to more patients. Being able to receive timely, expert-level acute care in place yields better outcomes and lower costs for the patients and communities who need it most.”
The company’s interim CEO Evan Berg, MD, will continue to lead innovation and growth as the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Strategy Officer, guiding quality efforts and overseeing improvements to instED’s care model. His leadership has been critical in advancing clinical innovation, and Stiffler will work closely with Dr. Berg and the rest of the leadership team to ensure a seamless transition and drive the company's strategic initiatives.
