Industry leader expands long-standing role with RMH-NY to support families battling pediatric cancer and other serious illnesses
Ronald McDonald House New York (RMH-NY) today announced the re-election of Steven J. Bensinger, Senior Advisor at Howden Re, as Chairman of the organization’s Board of Directors.
Steve has been a dedicated civic leader and steadfast supporter of RMH-NY for more than two decades. He previously served as Chairman of the Board playing a critical role in leading the House during the pandemic, spearheaded major events and committees, and most recently held the roles of Chairman Emeritus and Chairman Elect. In 2023, he was honored with RMH-NY’s inaugural Pinnacle of Vision Award for his extraordinary service and leadership. Steve succeeds James F. Flanagan, former Chief operating officer, vice chairman & US managing partner for PwC, who served as Chairman over the past two years.

With more than 45 years of executive leadership across the insurance and reinsurance sectors, Steve brings deep expertise to some of the industry’s most impactful organizations. As Senior Advisor at Howden Re and an independent board member for five leading insurance companies—including Ariel Re Holdings, Accredited Insurance, Clearcover Insurance, Kinsale Capital Group, and The Doctors Company—Steve continues to shape the field’s strategy and performance.
Steve’s distinguished career includes top roles at AIG, The Hanover Insurance Group, FTI Consulting, and more, where he led major initiatives in strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, crisis management, and financial transformation. His guidance has been instrumental in driving organic growth, operational turnaround, and long-term enterprise value.
Beyond RMH-NY, Steve also serves on the boards of the Reinsurance Association of America and the Insurance Federation of New York, helping to steer the broader industry with insight, integrity, and impact.
RMH-NY supports families from NYC, across the U.S. and around the world in the fight against pediatric cancer and other serious pediatric illnesses through its House on East 73rd Street in Manhattan as well as in partnering NYC hospitals.
