DistillerSR Donates $50,000 to CHEO Foundation to Advance Pediatric Research Excellence

OTTAWA, ON / ACCESS Newswire / December 17, 2025 / DistillerSR, the market leader in AI-enabled literature review automation and evidence management, today announced a $50,000 donation to the CHEO (Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario) Foundation. The CHEO Foundation is the funding body for CHEO, CHEO Research Institute, Roger Neilson Children's Hospice and CHEO School. The contribution marks a full-circle moment for DistillerSR, supporting the institution where its founders were first introduced to the critical need to modernize evidence-based research.

While DistillerSR now serves the world's largest pharmaceutical and medical device companies, its origins are deeply tied to Ottawa's local research ecosystem. Before launching the company, CEO Peter O'Blenis and his co-founders worked alongside Ottawa Hospital Research Institute teams located within CHEO facilities. It was in these corridors that they first witnessed researchers struggling with the immense manual burden of systematic reviews, using highlighters, printouts, and spreadsheets to sift through mountains of scientific papers.

"In those early days, we saw brilliant researchers struggling to manage the massive amount of data and content needed to conduct reviews," said Peter O'Blenis, CEO of DistillerSR. "They had already realized that if we could automate this administrative burden for them, they could unlock more time to focus on analysis and critical thinking. It was with this context that we eventually developed DistillerSR to automate and dramatically accelerate the review process. This donation is our way of saying thank you to an organization that became the birthplace of literature review automation."

The donation will help the CHEO Foundation advance its mission to support world-class pediatric research, care, and advocacy for children and youth across Eastern Ontario and beyond. CHEO Research Institute is one of Canada's foremost pediatric research centers, conducting groundbreaking studies that improve the lives of children and families.

"CHEO's Research Institute is a global leader in life-changing research that improves care for children, youth, and families in our community and beyond," said Emily Jamieson, VP Corporate Philanthropy and Community Engagement. "DistillerSR's deep understanding of research and their generous $50,000 gift underscore the importance of this work and the confidence they have in its impact. We are profoundly grateful to the entire DistillerSR team for helping us accelerate discoveries that will transform lives."

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to evidence-based medicine and the understanding that robust research methods are essential to advancing healthcare.
