Iron Ore Prices for 2003 Japan
Rio de Janeiro, May 23, 2003 Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD), the worlds largest iron ore producer, and Nippon Steel, a leading Japanese steelmaker, have settled on May 22, 2003, iron ore prices for 2003 Japanese fiscal year (from April 2003 to March 2004).
The price for the Southern System sinter feed, SSF, of US 27.64 cents per Long Ton Fe unit, corresponds to a 9.0% increase over the 2002 price and the price for the Southern System lump, NTA, of US 29.32 cents per Long Ton Fe unit, corresponds to a 8.9% increase over the 2002 price. Both prices are FOB Tubarão Port, Brazil.
Such settlement was achieved between the two companies after several rounds of negotiation that started in December 2002.
